Faculty, students, and research teams work within specialized academic fields while drawing on expertise, facilities, methods, and perspectives from throughout the university. Opportunities vary by field and may take place during the academic year, through dedicated research periods, or as part of university-supported programs.
FACULTY-LED RESEARCH
Students may contribute to ongoing projects under the guidance of JANU faculty, researchers, and established research teams.
INDEPENDENT INQUIRY
Students can develop individual questions through supervised study, discipline-specific projects, thesis or capstone work, and other forms of sustained inquiry.
INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECTS
Programs involving multiple schools, colleges, and research centers allow students to approach complex questions through more than one field or method.
Student participation depends on program requirements, project availability, and faculty supervision.
JANU understands research as both an intellectual pursuit and a public responsibility.
Researchers across the university work with communities, public institutions, healthcare organizations, cultural organizations, industry, and academic partners to examine questions whose consequences extend beyond campus.
These relationships allow research to move in both directions. Knowledge developed at JANU can contribute to the wider world, while questions and experiences arising outside the university can reshape the work taking place within it.
The goal is not simply to produce answers, but to create knowledge that can be examined, challenged, applied, and shared.
