JANU reviews undergraduate applications in context. No single part of an application is intended to stand alone.

Academic records remain central to the review process, but applicants are also considered through the subjects they have pursued, the level of challenge available to them, their written responses, their activities and responsibilities, and the circumstances in which their education has taken place.

The university seeks students who are prepared for demanding undergraduate study and who show the curiosity, discipline, and independence necessary to make use of the opportunities available at JANU.

02 PREPARE YOUR MATERIALS

Gather your academic records, required written responses, personal information, and any supporting materials relevant to your application.

03 SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Applications are completed through the JANU Applicant Portal according to the deadline for the applicant’s intended entry term and pathway.

For most undergraduate applicants, the application includes the following materials.

• Completed JANU undergraduate application

• Official or school-certified secondary academic records

• Required personal and academic information

• JANU written responses or personal statement

• School information and educational context

• Supporting documents required for the applicant’s pathway

• Additional program-specific materials, where applicable

Requirements may differ for international applicants, transfer applicants, recruited student-athletes, and students applying to programs with additional selection procedures.

Applicants may indicate academic interests as part of the undergraduate application, but JANU recognizes that academic direction can develop after students begin university.

Some students enter with a clearly defined field of study. Others begin through exploratory or interdisciplinary study before choosing a more specific academic direction.

JANU’s undergraduate structure allows students to encounter subjects beyond a single department while maintaining clear academic advising and degree requirements.

DIRECTED STUDY

For students entering with an established academic direction.

Applicants may identify areas of interest connected to one or more of JANU’s undergraduate schools and colleges.

EXPLORATORY STUDY

For students still developing their academic direction.

Exploratory students receive first-year academic advising through Astra Interdisciplinary Hall and may use introductory coursework to investigate possible fields before moving toward a defined academic pathway.

Prospective student-athletes may be identified and evaluated through JANU Athletics recruitment processes in addition to the university’s standard undergraduate admission process.

Athletic recruitment may include communication with coaching staff, review of competitive history and performance, eligibility documentation, and program-specific evaluation.

Athletic recruitment does not replace university admission.

All recruited student-athletes must satisfy JANU’s academic eligibility requirements and receive formal admission to the university before enrollment.

Prospective student-athletes should communicate directly with the relevant JANU varsity program regarding athletic recruitment procedures.
